How to prepare your stems for mixing.
Good stem prep saves time, avoids revision rounds, and gets you a better mix. Follow this checklist before you upload. If you would rather have us handle the mix end to end, book a mixing session with Post & Harden.

Bradley “Dula” Post and Blake “BlakeBlizzy” Harden ask every client to follow these steps before sending files. The same rules apply to stereo mixes, Atmos sessions, and mastering prep.
Bounce dry stems
Export each track from the same start point (bar 1, beat 1). Include all vocals, drums, bass, synths, and FX sends as separate files.
Consistent format
WAV or AIFF, 24-bit, at your session sample rate (44.1 or 48 kHz). No MP3s. Label files clearly: 01_Kick.wav, 02_Snare.wav, etc.
Turn off master processing
Remove limiters, compressors, and EQ from the master bus before bouncing. Leave individual track processing as-is unless we agree otherwise.
Include a rough mix
Send a reference bounce of your current balance so we hear your intent. Note any must-keep elements in your message.
Note the tempo and key
Include BPM and key in your upload folder or message. If the session has tempo changes, include a chart or marked rough mix.
Upload via link
WeTransfer, Dropbox, or Google Drive works. Send the link in your quote request. Do not attach large files to email.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Stems that start at different bar positions
- MP3 or low-bitrate exports
- Master bus limiting baked into every stem
- Missing vocal doubles, ad-libs, or FX returns
- No rough mix or reference track
When in doubt, send what you have and note any questions in your quote request. We will confirm before we start.
What happens after you send
We review your stem link, confirm stem count and scope, and reply with a quote and turnaround time. Typical stereo mixes run 3 to 5 business days after stems are approved. Rush delivery available on request.
